PROVOCATIVE, MOVING, AND VISUALLY GRAND.
“The First Woman in Latvia: A Trailblazer” returns to the Palladium stage.
On June 5, a unique and breathtaking drag performance show will have an additional performance.
At the heart of the show is Latvia’s most recognized drag queen, The First Woman in Latvia, aka Rojs Rodžers. This provocative dance performance explores questions of identity and societal norms, gender equality, and human rights. “The First Woman in Latvia: A Trailblazer” is the largest drag show ever produced in Latvia, featuring more than 50 participants and marking a significant moment in the country’s cultural scene.
Special guests of the evening include the band Trīsas, opera singer Brigita Reisone, animator Dzintars Krūmiņš, and many drag artists from Latvia.
A total of 37 dancers — together with choreographers Laura Gorodko, Rūdolfs Pauders, and Ivo Krieviņš, as well as the creative team Anda Braķe, Žaklīna Linkeviča, Terēze Strādniece, Līva Liepa, Krista Purmale, Anna Kalnaa, and others — will deliver an emotionally rich evening, speaking about courage, self-confidence, and triumph.
Through art, humor, and eroticism, the show reveals stories from the lives of women and the LGBTQ+ community, their challenges and victories, encouraging democratic change in Latvia.
The show deeply addresses social issues such as misogyny and the lingering influence of patriarchy, which still dominate the modern world — especially affecting women and the LGBTQ+ community.
“The First Woman in Latvia: A Trailblazer” offers a perspective on bravery, self-worth, and belief in oneself, while highlighting the importance of queer art in Latvia, where it is often underappreciated or overlooked.
The heart of the show is not only stories of hardship and injustice, but also how we as a society can overcome these challenges through love for ourselves and belief in our abilities.
This performance is a dynamic and emotionally charged journey through history, contemporary society, and dreams of a brighter future.
“The First Woman in Latvia: A Trailblazer” is more than just a show — it is an artistic and cultural event that will urge each viewer to reflect on societal norms and inspire them to be true to themselves.
This event is a must-see for anyone seeking an extraordinary and powerful artistic experience.
